Some Of My Favorites

(In No Particular Order)

You are the One by Dick Schwartz
You Are The One by Dick Schwartz

You Are the One

You've Been Waiting For

by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D.

A deeply helpful read on how to tune into your own Internal System and speak to your partner from a grounded, adult place.

No Bad Parts

by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D.

This is the clearest book on Internal Family Systems in my opinion. It's easy to read, compassionate and offers the paradigm-shifting view that even our most difficult parts are generally trying to help us.

Fierce Intimacy by Terry Real

Fierce Intimacy

An audio series by Terry Real

I suggest this listen to nearly all the couples I work with. Terry Real is practical and says it like it is. He offers excellent communication strategies and tips for getting out of your own way in relationships.

You can find Fierce Intimacy on Audible or Sounds True

US: Getting Past You and Me to Build a More Loving Relationship

by Terry Real

I also recommend all of Real's books. He's especially good if you want to read about relationships, but are tired of the usual "therapist talk."

Telepathy Tapes Podcast

The Telepathy Tapes

A podcast by Ky Dickens

Journalist Ky Dickens investigates the telepathic capabilities and spiritual savant skills of non-speaking autistic individuals. If you want to see the world differently, this podcast is a good place to start.

The Emerald Podcast: Currents and Trends Through a Mythic Lens

With Joshua Michael Schrei

The Emerald explores the human experience through myth, spirituality and the imagination. Expect beautiful narrative, music and interviews with authors, philosophers and anthropologists.

As a psychologist, I loved the way this episode challenges the mental health field: "Why the Revolution Will Not Be Psychologized."

Myth of Normal by Gabor Mate

The Myth of Normal

by Gabor Maté, M.D.

This is a masterful book on the connections between trauma, culture and physical health. I suggest it to anyone who is experiencing chronic illness (along with Maté's book When the Body Says No), or anyone who wants to better understand trauma and stress.

Ancestral Medicine

by Daniel Foor, Ph.D.

Foor has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and decades of study in comparative religions. He teaches on the cross-cultural belief that our ancestors influence us after their passing. Foor offers insight and practical techniques to bring an ancestral approach to healing.

Here's Foor interviewed on the podcast Science & Non-Duality.

Mating in Captivity by Esther Perel

Mating in Captivity

by Esther Perel

Esther Perel explains why we need mystery, not just comfort, in our intimate relationships. Mating in Captivity explores how to have a sense of thrill and erotic fun in long-term love.

Come As You Are and

Come Together

both by Emily Nagoski, Ph.D.

Emily Nagoski is brilliant at distilling science so that you can feel more normal and relaxed about sex — and more empowered to communicate with a partner.

Come Together by Emily Nagaski
My Grandmother's Hands book

My Grandmother's Hands

by Resmaa Menakem

This book profoundly draws the connections between racism and trauma in our culture, compassionately helping us all see the effects of oppression on our bodies and relationships.

The Others Within Us

by Robert Falconer

Bob Falconer is a lead Internal Family Systems trainer. He's amassed 10-years worth of study and clinical experience on what IFS calls Unattached Burdens and what in many cultures is understood to be spirit possession. It's a fascinating read that stretches the conventional (white, Western) understanding of psychological functioning.

Here's an interview with Falconer on the podcast IFS Talks.
